The Artist
My Background
A fourth grade teacher called my parents in for a conference due to my obsession with drawing on my spelling tests. Her recommendation - "Enroll Jeff in a gifted art class." My later studies included some drawing classes, but mostly commercial art. I worked for many years as an editor, writer and photographer in the magazine publishing arena. Twenty plus years later, I picked up a pencil and returned to what really makes me happy.
My Medium
Predominantly pencil on bristol board. I love creating highly detailed imagery, and the pencil is the perfect tool for the challenge. I also like a wide range of contrast, so I work with a wide range of hard to soft lead.
That said, I intend to dabble in ink and paint from time to time, so check back often to see updates on my new projects.
My Inspiration
In 2012, I married the love of my life. I also married a "horse gal." Sydney and our herd of Arabian horses are the driving force behind every image I create. Several of my drawings were created using our own horses as models. Each one of our horses has a very distinct personality, and there's no greater pleasure than capturing that spirit on paper. This image is of our two year old gelding, Kadar Rabi. He's the class clown in our herd.
